The PIAM Young Managers Think Tank (YMTT) organised its 5th YMTT Leadership Camp & CSR at Hotel Ion Delemen, Genting Highlands in Pahang on 26 April and 27 April 2019. With the theme ‘Passion X Purpose’, it had garnered participation from a total of 50 young managers from PIAM member companies.

PIAM CEO, Mr Mark Lim gave a welcome speech while the leader of YMTT, Mr Kelvin Siah explained the objectives and activities of the camp briefly to the young managers.

The camp kicked off with an ice-breaking session among the young managers. Then, Mr Lee Zen, Program Director of Equonxo Training Consultancy, guided them through “Salt Fat Acid HEAT” where the core components to sustain the passion at work were discussed. The factors that contribute to high employee engagement and effective strategies that can be implemented into their organisations were debated.

This was followed by a session called “The WHY Discovery” on realigning the young managers’ efforts and goals in order to succeed in life. The next challenge was the “Team Master Chef” where they had to prepare the meals from scratch and cook for their tea break session based on the menu given.

YMTT engaged 30 orphans from Badan Amal Nur Zaharah (BANZ), Janda Baik for this year’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project. En. Mokhtar Abdul Razak, Adviser of YMTT delivered an opening speech and explained the activity called “Toy Story Project”.

The young managers assisted the children in making tool carriers, bookshelves, robots and catapults from wood. Children who happened to be April birthday babies received a simple surprise birthday celebration organized by the young managers. PIAM contributed a token sum and goodie bags to the orphanage for their good use.

The young managers felt the leadership camp was a great experience and a good opportunity to build network. The industry believes programs such as these would create young leaders with good values and attributes in the future.
