The Malaysian Insurance Institute (MII) has published various insurance-specific textbooks to support its licensing and professional qualifications programmes for the insurance industry. The subjects range from Fire, Marine, Casualty, Takaful, Engineering Insurance and many more. The authors of these publications are industry Subject Matter Experts (SME) and practitioners who worked with specialists, reviewers and editors to produce comprehensive textbooks for students who enrol in MII programmes.
Some of MII’s publications have reached other insurance institutions and libraries across Asia including Cambodia, Iran, Bangladesh, Seychelles, Myanmar and Maldives. A well-known MII technical trainer who is also the author of the Engineering Insurance textbook, Ir Pooba Mahalingam, has taken the MII publications to numerous training assignments in Sri Lanka, Mongolia, India, Mauritius and even in Africa. In a recent interview, Ir Pooba said, “MII textbooks help to build its brand across the region.” An advocate to continuous professional training, he added that during his training assignments, he has seen MII textbooks placed in libraries and used as the main reference material for foreign students and insurance practitioners.
Notably, Ir Pooba has played an instrumental role in promoting MII textbooks, particularly Engineering Insurance to international institutes such as The Insurance Institute of Mauritius (IIM), African Reinsurance Corporation (ARC), Mongolian Re, Sri Lankan Insurance Institute and Insurance Foundation of India (IFI).
